Florida has more lifestyle clubs, resorts and takeover weekends than any other state, with Tampa, South Florida and the Orlando area as its three centers. Every well-known venue in the state is a members-only private club, most on-premise clubs are BYOB, and all of them are listed with their nights, policies and covers in the Florida club directory.
How Florida clubs work
A Florida swinger club is a private membership club, which is how it operates legally. Expect a membership fee (annual, or bought at the door on your first visit), a nightly cover that is higher for single men, and a dress code. On-premise clubs have play areas: private rooms, group rooms, sometimes a dungeon room and a couples-only area. Off-premise socials are bars and lounges where lifestyle people meet, and nothing more happens on site.
Alcohol is the thing that surprises newcomers. Because of Florida's liquor rules, an on-premise club generally cannot both serve alcohol and allow nudity in the same licensed space, so most are BYOB: your bottle is checked at the door, labeled with your membership number and served back to you by the bar staff, who are tipped like any bartender. A few clubs solve it with two doors, a licensed bar on one side and the play areas next door. The listing will say which applies.
Tampa Bay
Tampa is the lifestyle capital of the country, and locals say it without irony. The area has multiple on-premise clubs, a clothing-optional resort with lifestyle nights, and more hotel takeovers per year than anywhere else in the state.
- Eyz Wide Shut (8504 E. Adamo Drive, Tampa) is the established on-premise club: a full bar and dance floor on one side, and a play side with themed private rooms, group rooms and a dungeon room next door. Entry is 21 and over. Group rooms are for couples and single women; single men enter private rooms by invitation only.
- Caliente, in Land O' Lakes about 30 minutes north of Tampa, is a gated clothing-optional resort with hotel rooms, condos, pools and a nightclub that runs adult theme nights. It is a nudist resort first and a lifestyle venue second, and the two coexist by keeping the lifestyle parties to specific nights and areas. Day memberships are available.
Tampa also hosts the busiest hotel takeover calendar in Florida, with whole hotels booked for lifestyle weekends several times a year. The events calendar and the takeover listings carry the dates, and the takeover guide explains how they work. Members in the area are on the Tampa member pages.
Miami and Fort Lauderdale
South Florida's scene is older and more international. Nights start late, the dress code is enforced hard, and the crowd on a Saturday will include visitors from Latin America and Europe who came for the clubs.
- Trapeze (5213 N. State Road 7, Tamarac, in the Fort Lauderdale area) has billed itself as the top swingers club in the country since 2008 and runs a sister club in Atlanta. Saturdays are for couples and single women only; single men are admitted Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. It is BYOB, with bottles marked with your member number at the door and mixers provided, open until 3 a.m. on weeknights and 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
- Miami Velvet (3901 NW 77th Avenue, Miami) is the city's oldest established swingers club, open Friday and Saturday, with membership available at the door and a range of play rooms.
The Miami member pages and the Broward County pages under Florida are where the regulars at both clubs can be found before the weekend.
Orlando and Central Florida
Orlando's scene is built around visitors as much as locals, which is why its best-known venue is a hotel rather than a nightclub. Secrets Hideaway Resort and Spa in Kissimmee, on East Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway near the theme parks, is a members-only lifestyle resort: a whole hotel with a clothing-optional pool, an on-site club and nightly theme parties. It grew out of the Kissimmee hotel takeovers of the 2000s, and a weekend there works like a permanent takeover. Central Florida otherwise runs on socials and house parties, listed under organizations and parties, and on the Orlando member pages.
Elsewhere in the state
Jacksonville, the Space Coast, Southwest Florida and the Panhandle each have a private club or a monthly social, and the pattern is the same everywhere: a members-only venue, a couples-heavy weekend, a newbie night midweek. Listings change more often outside the big three metros, so check the Florida directory for current hours and policies rather than a years-old review.
Club types and what to pick first
| Type | What it is | Good first visit? |
|---|---|---|
| On-premise club | Bar, dance floor and play areas in one venue; members only; usually BYOB | Yes, on a newbie or weeknight |
| Off-premise social | A lifestyle crowd at an ordinary bar or lounge; drinks served; no play on site | Yes, the easiest start |
| Lifestyle resort | Hotel with pool, club and rooms; stay the weekend | Yes, if you want a whole weekend |
| Hotel takeover | A hotel booked out for one lifestyle weekend; tickets sell in advance | Better as a second step |
| House party | Private, invitation only, vetted | Usually after you know people |
Before you go
Read the listing for the night you are planning, not the club in general: singles policy, cover, dress code and theme all change by day. Decide your rules as a couple in the car, read the etiquette guide once, and if you have never been inside a club at all, the first-visit guide covers what the first hour looks like. Then say hello to a couple on the Florida member pages who are going the same night. In Florida, there will be several.
